This Friday, during the mobilization commemorating the 68th anniversary of the fall of the Marcos Pérez Jiménez dictatorship and demanding the immediate release of the constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady, Cilia Flores, the Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, declared: “The people know that we are all fully committed to the same project, the Bolivarian project, Chávez’s project,” adding that the massive march of the Venezuelan people seeks “to celebrate absolute loyalty to our brother, President Nicolás Maduro, and Cilia Flores.”
“The whole world knows this is a kidnapping. They were kidnapped from Venezuela and taken to the United States. From here, we demand their release; our people are in the streets demanding the president’s release every day,” the Venezuelan leader stated.

On January 3, US forces carried out a military attack against Venezuelan territory, leaving at least 100 people dead and a similar number wounded. As part of this criminal operation ordered by the Trump Administration, the presidential couple was illegally kidnapped by a commando group and taken to New York.
Cabello emphasized that the day’s events aim to celebrate “absolute loyalty.” He shared an anecdote in which a colleague urged him to “shouldn’t look angry,” reminding him that “our flag has always been that of joy. In the worst moments, we have gone into battle with joy, with enthusiasm, with the will to win.”
The Secretary General of the PSUV emphasized that, although the president’s kidnapping was a “hard blow of sadness, anger, pain, and frustration,” “no one can stop this people,” referring to the “prolonged active resistance” that Commander Chávez spoke of, because “this struggle will end when we bring Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores back here, along with their people.”
In this context, Minister Cabello asked for “constant and permanent” support for Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who “has been at the forefront, facing the music” in this situation. He assured that the leadership of the Bolivarian process will never deviate from the path of Bolívar and Chávez: “Have the certainty and assurance that we will never, ever deviate from the path of Bolívar and Chávez. Never. … We have always followed the path of the Bolivarian Revolution. Always. In the worst situations. Remember: Pandemic, coups d’état.” And we have always appealed to the conscience of this people.”
Cabello emphasized that, since the “kidnapping” of President Maduro, “not a single day has passed since they kidnapped our brother, President Nicolás Maduro, that this people hasn’t taken to the streets to demand the return of Cilia and the return of Nicolás. Not a single day.” He recalled the Fourth Republic, when the people were only remembered during elections and repressed when demanding their rights, contrasting it with the leadership of Commander Chávez.
The mobilization of January 23, 2026, underscores the firm stance of the Venezuelan people in defense of their leadership and against U.S. foreign intervention. Cabello affirmed that “the eyes of the world are on Venezuela” and that free peoples know that the nation “will move forward and know that under any circumstances and whatever happens, we will prevail. Have no doubt.”
